Local art show is being held for the next two weeks at Selinsgrove Area High School. Gov. Ed Rendell signed legislation Thursday that will require the collection of a $52 municipal tax at a rate of $1 a week, instead of in a lump sum, and excuse the state's lowest earners from paying it. People who make less than $12,000 a year will be exempt from paying the tax. Emergency and Municipal Service Tax (2004) is renamed to Local Services Tax.
The Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit 16 in Lewisburg is getting more than $1.5 million dollars to teach about traditional US history. The Department of Education awarded the CSIU to teach US History as a subject separate from social studies, civics or other subjects. It will be disturbed over three years, and allow teachers to be trained professionally in what they need to convey to students in an exciting and engaging manner. More than 40,000 local students in the 5-county region are under the jurisdiction of the CSIU.
