Picture of Ed's Duetto

Designed by Pininfarina, the first Duetto rolled off the assembly line in 1966. The name "Duetto" came from a public competition that resulted in 140,000 suggestions. The '68 and '69 Spider Veloce's (sometimes incorrectly called Duetto's) featured a mechanical fuel injected driven 1750 cc engine, but had the same "Roundtail" body design.

This one of Ed's '67 Alfa Duetto Spiders, the one he drives every day. This Duetto was restored over a 3 year period by Don Paulson, and was finished in 1992 after more than 250 hours of work. Ed purchased the car in 1999. After driving it for 3 years, Ed decided to do a more thorough frame up restoration, which included replacing all bushings and springs in the suspension and steering; front and rear brake calipers and rotors; Dash, and Top.

Ed bought a 1976 1600 cc European Alfa Romeo Engine (correct size for the Duetto), and gave it to Alfa Romeo Master Mechanic Salvatore Malanga for a 100% rebuild. Sal's Auto Repair is located in Boonton, NJ and is listed in Alfa Owner Magazine. Here is Sal admiring his handywork. sal.jpg - 457310 Bytes
The body was not overlooked. It was stripped to bare metal, inside and out, rusty metal removed, and new metal welded in place, and then the car was re-painted in the non-original teal and white colors Paulson used. The original upholstery done by Paulson was retained. Ed purchased a re-built 74 Alfa Transmission, and converted the Duetto clutch to a hydraulic release, but retained the original floor mounted brake and clutch petals. The car took Ed and his son Bill to Quebec in June of 2003 for it's maiden voyage.

Ed also has a "Rosso" Red Duetto that he shows. This car was restored by Joe Felice in Spencerport, NY. Red Duetto

Ed also has another Duetto that is a candidate for restoration.Click here to see this Duetto, which is not yet restored.
