Notes:
Students need to take time to think and reflect on their own thinking. Teachers should provide quiet time for students to work on their own.
Students are good at manipulating teachers - don't let them! Provide a variety of tools, including calculators and computers, for students to use to model problems and to experiment with a variety of solution methods.
Provide resources, mathematical dictionaries, tables charts, lists of strategies.
Give students time to process information and draw conclusions on their own.
Model this behavior by giving students problems without solutions.
