Lower Lehigh River - Jim Thorpe

Map

Description

A touristy town with a long history of coal mining and tourism. Things to see are the railroad museum, the Asa Packer mansion, Flagstaff lookout, and various bike trails.

Pay the parking fee and park your shuttle car behind the railroad museum, or for a shorter trip without 2 miles of flatwater and Class Is, go across the 903 bridge to the east side of the river, and follow the signs to the Glen Onoko access area of the state park.

The school system's web site has some nice photos of the town.
