The Weekly Mop-Up
(Week Two Observations)

Howdy, kids! Another week of the season is in the books, and a fashionably late Weekly Mop-Up is here to praise the winners and bury the losers. It was another exciting week in the LEAF league, featuring a lot of big scores and gaudy stats.

So let's review what happened and set up Week 3!

Is anybody else REALLY sick of Todd?: Everyone's favorite post-draft whipping boy struck again in Week 2, hanging an astounding143 points on his unsuspecting brother. Todd made the savvy move of benching Shane Matthews for Mark Brunell, who celebrated his promotion with a 25-point effort, outdueling Mike's Brian Griese (17 points) in a battle of mid-range quarterbacks.

Todd also got big games from Deuce McAllister (24) and Marvin Harrison (20), but his top scorer was the Patriots defense, which racked up 27 fantasy points in its ass-kicking of the Jets. Todd's early success would make him the feel-good story of the league so far if he hadn't ruined it by shoving his feel-good story down
our throats Sunday night on the boards. Much like it did for Steve Spurrier on Monday, here's hoping that reality soon comes crashing down on our esteemed commissioner. Remember: he's one injury away from starting Shane Matthews for the rest of the season.

Fit to be tied: There was more sister-kissing than a Columbia prom this week, as three teams all finished with 90 points. Two of them were going up head-to-head, as my beloved Ragin Rednecks fought to a draw with Nic-Rae's Mystery Machine.

In addition, Steve made a late push to reach 90 points on Monday night, riding Donovan McNabb's dismantling of the Redskins for 32 points. That was more than enough to bury Eric K's Rough Housers, who managed just 52 points thanks to a 0-point effort by Laverneous Coles and just six points from Washington's Rod Gardner.

You know it's a bad week when? You score 112 points and lose. That's the
case with Mike Ruth, whose Razorbacks cracked the century mark in a losing effort this week. A combined 48 points from Marshall Faulk and Lamar Smith weren't enough to beat the aforementioned Chico's Bailbonds. That's gotta hurt.

Spoiled Pez: Poor Bruce. We won't dwell on his drafting of Dominic Rhodes,
except to point out that Rhodes is still only four fantasy points behind Clinton Portis (his 3rd round pick) after two weeks. For the second straight week, Warrick Dunn carried the load with a respectable 12 points, but when your No. 2 back can only manage four points in two games, you're one hurting puppy. Somebody be nice to Bruce and offer him an RB in a trade, OK? If not, Correll Buckhalter and Ricky Watters are still available, Bruce.

Players of the week: Give it up for Daunte Culpepper, who grabbed 37 points for Tom Tran's Fighting Goobers this week. Culpepper, Donovan McNabb and Peerless Price were the only players to score more than 30 points in Week 2.

The Standings: After two weeks, Todd is in the lead with a whopping 253 points, 53 up on Yours Truly. Mike Ruth rounds out the top three with 199 points, while Rick and Eric Stark are tied for fourth at 189. The rest of you losers are as follows: 6. Steve (182) 7. Bruce (178) 8. Nick (176) 9. Tom (170) 10. Eric K. (169) 11. Dave (161) 12. Troy (131)

Until next week, chumps!
