- Hi, kids! Following an unanticipated bye week, the
Weekly Mop-up returns to action to review Week 4 of the
season. Not much time for small talk this week, so let's
get right down to it:
- "Hi, everybody!" - After a few weeks of taking his
lumps, rookie owner Nick Bradley won the points title for
Week 4 with an impressive 130-point showing. Thanks to a
39-point effort from Rich Gannon and a 20-point night
from Jerry Rice and a 19-point showing by the Eagles
defense, Nick's Mystery Machine whopped Dave Garner's
Brickyard Bullies, who managed just 59 points.
- Sinking fast - After giving away Tim Couch to Todd
for a bag of worn-out jockstraps and seven magic beans,
nobody's feeling much sympathy for Troy right now. But
things have gone from bad to worse for his Lancaster
Raiders, last year's league runner-up. An injury to Kurt
Warner means Troy will have to go with rookie Joey
Harrington for the rest of the season, unless somebody
offers to trade him a shiny new nickel and three pieces
of pocket lint for the Lions' QB.
- Come to think of it, three pieces of pocket lint
would be good for the same amount of fantasy points
compiled by Warner on Sunday (0). Without his marquee
quarterback, Troy managed just 41 points in a loss to my
Ragin' Rednecks - that's six less than my quarterback
(Trent Green, making his only appearance of the season)
put up last Sunday. If I'd gotten just one more point, I
would've tripled his score.
- Loser Bowl - The much-anticipated showdown between
Todd "Baby" Ruth and Rick "If Lovin' You is Wrong, I
Don't Wanna Be" Reitz ended in a draw, as both teams
managed 95 points. Our esteemed commissioner lamented his
decision to bench budding superstar Rodney Peete after
the game, while our beloved webmaster second-guessed his
call to keep Todd Heap on the sidelines.
- Incidentally, if Todd had played Peete and Rick had
started Heap, they still both would have finished behind
me. Just pointing that out.
- Counting it up - Here are your updated standings
after Week 4: 1. Todd (431) 2. Rick (419) 3. Steve (409)
4. Me (403) 5. Mike (386) 6. Nick (383) 7. Eric K. (352)
8. Eric S. (347) 9. Bruce (343) 10. Tom (355) 11. Dave
(310) 12. Captain Dumbass (253).
