I am an alumni of Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, and am now a seventh grade teacher of students with learning differences at Warren Hills Middle School, in Washington, New jersey. I was honored in 1994, when my curriculum was chosen for a Best Practices award from the New Jersey State Department of Education. During the summer of 1998 I worked as a consultant for the department of Education for the purpose of developing adaptations necessary for all children to meet with success. View the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards here to quickly learn of the scope and sequence proposed by the state. As a special education teacher it is imperative that I keep informed regarding the Chapter 14, Special Education, New Jersey Administrative Code. ___________________________________________________________________________
Study skills are a vital component in the learning process for students of all ages. Please see my web page and the related links devoted to the development of sound Study Skills. Teachers plan for and teach to the different ways of learning by recognizing that all children have Multiple Intelligences. An IEP is written and provided for all children identified as having learning differences. What are learning disabilities ? The Learning Disabilities Association of America has some valuable information here.
Someone once said, "Every one is both a student and a teacher. We are at our best when we each teach ourselves what we need to learn."

Stop by for a visit at Trinity United Church of Christ - located in Upper Mt. Bethel, PA, where I am the coordinator for the church history committee. This year we are celebrating the 225th anniversary of the 1774 founding of Trinity United Church of Christ. To commemorate the event the history committee has put together a unique history / cookbook, Reflections, Recollections, and Recipes; a history that has been compiled to make the personal stories of the congregation come alive for the present day members of Trinity. The books are available through the church office. You may enjoy reading the May 3, 1999 article in the Easton Express, "Church in Stone Church traces roots to Revolutionary War" By Tony Nauroth. Part of my interest in history includes membership in the Slate Belt Historical Museum where I volunteer in the summer as an interpreter of local history for visitors.
My hobby, genealogy, has been a favorite pass time for over thirty years. My ancestors are rooted in American history. From Mayflower passengers to German Palatines to Welsh coalminers; they all came to America seeking a better way of life for their families. The Hughes family came from Berks Co., PA and pioneered in Tioga Co., PA. The family of James Estep arrived from Wales in 1858, and settled in Tioga and Bradford Co., PA. The McEwen family was in Northampton Co., PA as early as 1807. For an overview of the pedigrees of the two sides of my family, please see an ahnentafel of the ancestors of Richard and Zilpha Estep Hughes of Tioga Co., PA and an ahnentafel of the ancestors of Homer and Eliza Long McEwen of Lower Mt. Bethel, Northampton Co., PA. The ahnentafel for the Smith side of the family contains the ancestors of Clarence and Dorothy Good Smith of Lower Mt. Bethel, Northampton Co., PA. Ron's ancestors are sturdy Pennsylvania Dutch, with their roots in Bucks and Northampton Counties. These families include the Good family of Lower and Upper Mt. Bethel, Northampton Co., PA and the John Smith family of Bethlehem Twp., Northampton Co., PA.
Since I have discovered that I have several lines of descent from Bernhart Miller, I have placed the Miller Family Register online. These pages trace the Miller's of Lower and Upper Mt. Bethel in Northampton Co., PA through 5 generations from 1750 to 1900. Descendants of Bernhart Miller, include the descendants of Paulus Bradt and John Houck, as well as John McEwen, Christopher Illick and John Good, of Lower and Upper Mt. Bethel. Follow the links on these pages to find out more about these families. A searchable surname index to these families is located at my-ged.com.
Also, I have located some of my research at Cynthia's Family Lines. If you are doing research in Berks, Bucks, Lehigh or Northampton Counties visit this site hosted by Tiana for excellent references in the area. A very good site for research in the Tioga Co. PA area is hosted by Joyce Tice.
