The following information is taken from The Heffner Family Reunion booklet, Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, Aug. 30, 1924. "The Heffner family is of German descent and runs back into the past beyond the scope of this article. The direct lineal ancestry has been traced seven generations to Valentine and Nancy Miller Heffner, (other research indicates that she was Barbara Miller) natives of Franklin Co., PA. Valentine Heffner and his brother, Jacob, had served in the Revolutionary War and become citizens of Walker Twp, Huntingdon Co., which land was purchased from the Indians in 1754. Valentine Heffner, after living a few years upon the farm near the upper mill, the foundation of which remains, later known as the Robb farm, returned to Franklin County; but in 1796 came to make permanent settlement in Walker Twp. Valentine and Jacob each secured 96 acres of land in the Little Valley; Jacob occupying the lower farm and living there until 1817 when he moved to Ohio. The upper farm has always belonged to the Heffner family and there Valentine died in 1848 at the age of 89 and was buried in --- cemetery; having for a number of years been a Revolutionary pensioner. He was the father of fourteen children. "

Ben Heffner was the oldest child of John and Rachel Heffner. He had a total of 12 children. Gram McEwen, in her report, "Outline of a Study of the Self", a family history she prepared in 1917, while a student at East Stroudsburg State Normal School, states "Grandfather Heffner was married twice. His first wife died of heart trouble. With his first wife he had eight sons and one daughter. Grandfather taught school for several years when he was a young man. Then he was a farmer. He died from a sore on his leg. This is found on several members of the family." Ben was the father of three daughters in his second marriage, one of whom, Ella Mae Heffner Long was my great grandmother. He first married Eliza Lichenthaler. Born 25 May 1821. Died 26 Dec 1865. She was the first wife of Ben Heffner. Together they had nine children. They had the following children:

He second married Ann "Eliza" States Simpson, 14 Aug 1866 in Mc Connellstown, Huntingdon Co.,Pa. Born 28 May 1838. Died 12 Feb 1896 in Mc Connellstown, Huntingdon Co.,Pa. Eliza States Simpson was the second wife of Benjamin Heffner. She was born May 28, 1838 and died Feb. 12, 1896. She was married twice. Her first marriage was to John Simpson with whom she had four children. Abraham, b. 1853, George, b. 1855, Katherine, b. 1857 and Jennie, b. 1859. She would have only been about 15 years old when her first child was born. Mr. Simpson died three months before the birth of his last child, Jennie Simpson in 1859. Eliza was a widow at the age of 21 with four young children.

Eliza States married Benjamin Heffner on Aug. 14, 1866. She had three children with Ben Heffner.
They had the following children:

Ella Mae Heffner, was the daughter of Benjamin Heffner and his second wife Eliza States Simpson. She was born 8 May 1871 in Mc Connellstown, Huntingdon Co.,Pa. and died 10 Jan 1945 in Bangor, PA. She and her husband are buried in Three Church Hill Cem., Lower Mt.Bethel Twp., Northampton Co.PA. She was a homemaker who was involved in church work throughout her lifetime, as a Sunday school teacher, director of music, women's group leader and faithful supporter of her husband's work.

She married Rev. Howard Herbert Long, son of Mahlon Long & Sarah Hoover, 28 Mar 1898. He was born 28 Oct 1870 in Riegelsville,PA. , Durham Twp., Bucks Co., PA. Rev. Long died 1930 in Evens City, PA. They are buried in Three Church Hill Cem.,Lower Mt.Bethel Twp.,Northampton Co.PA. Education Ursinis Collage, Collageville, PA. Rev. Long was a minister in the Reformed Church in PA. Beginning in 1897, he was the Pastor of churches in Spring City at St. Vincent Reformed Church in Chester Co., Stone Church, Red Lion and Evens City. He grew up in Williams twp., just below Easton, PA. His parents' home was on Bouger Hill Rd. He was an excellent writer, with large flowing penmanship. The records that he kept for the church at Stone Church, which I have read first hand are given to great detail. He purchased a Model T Ford in the early 1900's and was one of the first persons in Stone church to own an automobile. Since he had to travel a three church charge from Mt. Zion in LMB to the Flicksville church to the church at Stone Church, the automobile greatly reduced his travel time. In 1913 he published a brief autobiography in a church history booklet. In it he states that he was born at Riegelsville PA, October 29, 1869. The birth year 1870 is on his tombstone and his baptism record gives his birth date as Oct. 27, 1866 and his baptism date as Feb. 26, 1867. There seems to be some confusion about his birth date. Also confusing is that he states that his ancestors belonged to one of the oldest and most influential families in France, however most data points to German heritage. They had the following children:
