Paulus (Brod) Brodt
Born 19 Sep 1733 in Lixheim, Lorraine, France. Died 1782 in Wms.,twp.,Northampton Co.,PA,. Occupation Tanner, Immigrant Ancestor. Paul Brodt (Paulus Brodt) arrived in the port of Philadelphia on Sept. 13, 1749 on the ship Christian. His name is also spelled Powell Brodt, all spellings being a form of the name Paul.
Paul was born 19 Sept. 1733 in Lixheim, Lorraine, France (on the Alsace border). So it appears that he came as a teenager of 16 years . He may have come with other members of his family. He was the son of Paul Brodt and Maria Rieger.
Paul Brodt was a tanner and a farmer. He had a large tannery at Riverton
, across the Delaware River from Belvidere, N. J. He also established a
tannery at Lower Saucon in Wms. twp. and at Portland, PA. "Upon his
arrival into this country made his way up along Delaware River until he
reached a point opposite Belvidere NJ at a point now called Riverton Pa.
(about equally distant between Easton and Delaware Water Gap) where he
established a Tannery ."
There was later evidence that he also ran a tannery in Lower Saucon in
Williams twp.; he was taxed 820 pounds in the year 1782 for his Tannery
property there. At his death in 1783 , he left a large estate to his 10
children, many of whom were still minors under the age of 14. He was the
father of Susanna Brodt who married Christopher Illick. He married Maria
Barbara Miller. History Data of the Brod - Brode- Broad and Brodt Families
