Christ's United Lutheran Church
Christian Education
The primary objectives of the Christian Education Committee, under the supervision of Ann Marie Dillman, include Primary Sunday School, Adult Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, First Communion and Confirmation instructions plus the planning of the annual Easter Egg Hunt.
Primary Sunday School
Under the leadership of the Sunday School staff, the Primary Department is trying to reach out to all the children in the congregation. Approximately 20 children are enrolled for the 2008-2009 school year. The average attendance is between 14 and 16 children.
Evangelism ~ Outreach

The
Evangelism~Outreach Committee, under the supervision of Erik Tice and Dennis
Wolfe, addresses worship, greeters, hospitality and ways in which
they can be a welcoming and friendly fellowship.
This committee has developed
and put into place four prayer circles that account for thirty-four congregational members
who are in constant prayer, praying for the family and friends of those sick in hospitals
or ill at home.
They have also started a
grieving ministry that will be making contacts with congregational members who have lost
loved ones.
Property Committee

The Property Committee is in charge of any needed
repairs or unexpected emergencies that may arise.
When repairs are needed, the members of Christ's United rise
to the occasion by donating their time, money and material that enables the
maintenance problems to be corrected under the supervision of Eric Tice and Jo-Ann Young.
Social Ministry
This
Committee, under the supervision of Barbara Stepanchick and Erik Tice, centers on the care of our shut-ins. They arrange for pastoral
visitation and visits by the lay Eucharist visitors.
Through funding of the
Lutheran Church Men and Women of the ELCA and the Memorial Fund, this committee has
purchased a tape duplicator in order to tape Sunday morning sermons to deliver to
homebound members that they may share in the Sunday morning worship experience.
This committee also conducts
an annual Harvest Home where foods are collected and delivered to those in need.
Stewardship Committee

The Stewardship Committee, under the supervision of Stewart Anthony and Richard Berner, looks into and discusses the congregation's potential. The committee members distribute and compile the Congregational Time and Talent Sheets. The willingness of our members to participate in the work of our Congregation, and service to others was evident in their response.
Worship and Music Committee
The Worship and
Music Committee, under the supervision of Jack Houser, Barbara Stepanchick, and
Becky Spencer hold meetings periodically throughout the year. This committee is in
charge of choosing the music for the services. They also assist in the preparation
of all services including special services for Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday
and Easter.
Special fundraisers are held
from time to time to raise money for the cleaning of their gowns and they also sponsor
special singing groups from time to time, like "Joyful Noise" and inviting the
Ashland Ministerial's Community Choir to perform at our church. Their fundraisers
also provide for the purchase of new music.
The members of this
committee hope that positive changes will continue to be made in the coming years to
enhance the beauty and effectiveness of our church services.
There were three little birds in a wood
Who always sang hymns when they could,
What the words were about
They could never make out
But they felt it was doing them good.
Youth Ministry
The Youth
Ministry, under the guidance of Pastor Hoenich, are busy throughout the year. They collect
money and food items for the "Souper Bowl" in February; go biking for World
Hunger at the Nazareth Speedway; help pack Harvest Home food for distribution to the
needy; and take part in a Walk-a-thon for Cystic Fibrosis.
In December they decorate the Christmas tree in the
Fellowship Hall
and go Christmas caroling to Christ's United shut-ins.
It's not all work and no
play as during the year they enjoyed a pizza making party, a trip to Dorney Park,
roller skating at the Roller Roost in Pottsville, a night
of bowling with the Youth Group of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church plus other fun
activities.
Mutual Ministry Committee
This is a fairly new committee here at Christ's United Lutheran Church, under
the supervision of Kay Berner, Ann Marie Dillman, and Becky Spencer, that was recommended by the
Synod to help form an amicable working relationship with the Pastor. The ministry
of any pastor, lay person, and congregation is strengthened when there exists a small group
of people who act out of mutual concern for the pastor, lay people and congregation.
The goal of the Mutual
Ministry Committee is to assist both the Pastor and the congregation in doing effective
ministry and it also functions as a confidential and personal support group.
