Errol Flynn Biography

Born in 1947, Errol Flynn is the oldest of nine children born to Charles and Elizabeth Flynn of Honesdale, Pennsylvania. Mr. Flynn is a graduate of Honesdale Catholic High School, the University of Notre Dame (B.A.) and the University of Connecticut (J.D.).

As a youth, Errol was active in Scouting. An Eagle Scout and Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow, he served as Lodge Chief, Area Conference (Section) Chief and on the Planning Committee for the 1965 OA National Conference. Errol was elected high school Student Council President and was class valedictorian. He worked his way through Notre Dame selling hot dogs before football games and food in dormitories, as a math corrector, and as a clerk/typist. While at Notre Dame, Errol served as Chairman of the Blue Circle Honor Society, ran student trips, and organized student/faculty "gabfests."

Following graduation, Errol joined Connecticut General Insurance Company. He worked his way up to the position of Assistant Director of Financial Systems. He left Connecticut General in 1981 to begin a private law practice back in Honesdale. He maintains this law practice while also working, since 1992, as co-owner and business manager of Five Mountain Market, a supermarket with 30 employees in Shickshinny, Pennsylvania.

An active member of the community, Errol has worked with numerous organizations including: the Human Resource Center (Secretary and Vice Chair), Wayne/Pike Chapter of the American Red Cross (11 gallon donor and Board Member), and the Northeastern Pennsylvania Audubon Society (Treasurer and President). He has served as President of the Advisory Board for the Honesdale Catholic School, Treasurer of its PTA, Secretary of the Wayne County Bar Association and a member of the Wayne Highlands Strategic Planning Committee. He has worked with the Honesdale Little League and YMCA Soccer programs as an Assistant Coach.

Errol has maintained an active role in Scouting--serving as Post Advisor, Lakes District Camping Chairman, District Finance Chairman, Den Leader, Cubmaster, Merit Badge Counselor and Assistant Scoutmaster. He organized week-long hiking trips on the Appalachian Trail and Northeastern PA Council tours of Boston and Washington for groups of 520 and 640 scouts. He is the recipient of the District Award of Merit and the Silver Beaver Award. He was active with his daughter's Girl Scout troop committee and served as troop cookie chairman.

Shown above at St. Johns/St. Mary's Block Party food stand, which he and Mary Ann have run for 14 years, Errol also currently volunteers as an ambulance driver twice a month, as an Executive Board Member of the Scranton/Pocono Girl Scout Council, on the Scholarship Committee of Northeast PA Audubon Society, and has been Secretary/Treasurer of the Wayne/Pike AIDS Council for 5 years.

He has been married since 1971 to the former Mary Ann Sheeran of Fostoria, Ohio, a special education teacher at Honesdale High School. They are the proud parents of Marney, a junior at the University of Dayton, and Sean, a Notre Dame sophomore.

Errol ran in 1996 for the Republican nomination for Pennsylvania's 10th Congressional seat. He received 47% of the vote and a majority in 4 of the 9 counties. Running again in 1998, after Joe McDade's retirement and against seven Republican opponents, Errol came in third with 16% of the votes behind Don Sherwood and Jimmy Connors. Errol won Wayne and Pike counties.
