My pledge to the citizens of Pennsylvania District 85:

I will support government action that intends to protect the people from violence, coercion and fraud.

I will not support government action for anything we can take care of ourselves as independent citizens in a free market economy.

About the Candidate:

Selinsgrove resident and borough councilman Erik Viker has announced his candidacy for election to District 85 seat in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and will file nominating papers to appear on the November 2 election ballot as the Libertarian Party candidate. On January 30, the state Board of Directors of the Libertarian Party of Pennsylvania voted in Harrisburg to endorse his nomination.

“As a Libertarian elected official, I represent the interests of my fellow citizens from a perspective of fiscal responsibility, self-reliance and minimal government intrusion into citizens’ lives,” says Viker, adding “I also expect my candidacy to remind the people of our community that the Democratic and Republican parties are not our only options for government.” Viker believes the Libertarian Party embodies the best of American politics, supporting fiscal conservatism and positions on social issues promoting individual liberties. He states “I support government action that intends to protect the people from violence, coercion and fraud. I will not support government action for anything we can take care of ourselves as independent citizens in a free market economy.”

As a member of the Pennsylvania Assembly, Viker wants to encourage other elected officials to ensure state budgets are completed on time and with conservative respect for taxpayer resources. “I expect to serve as a working citizen representative for the people of District 85,” says Viker, “not a professional politician concerned about a career in Harrisburg.” House District 85 includes Center, Chapman, Jackson, Middlecreek, Penn, Union and Washington townships and the boroughs of Freeburg and Selinsgrove in Snyder County, and all of Union County.

Viker was recently elected to serve as Vice-President of the Selinsgrove Borough Council, where he also chairs the Public Safety committee and sits on the committees for Personnel Management and Community Activities and Public Affairs. In addition to his service as a borough councilman, his experience with government agencies includes thirteen years as a family services counselor and supervisor in the state of Florida, overseeing child abuse prevention and intervention services in a three-county region. As a freelance production manager, Viker provides operations and technology consulting to civic theatres and performing arts organizations nationwide. He is an active member of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, Local 636, and the United States Institute for Theatre Technology, where he serves on the national Publications Committee.

Viker holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Florida. Born in 1965 on Long Island, Viker has been a resident of the borough of Selinsgrove since 2003. He attends St. Pius X Catholic Church in Selinsgrove. He and his wife Brenda are employed by Susquehanna University, where Viker is an Associate Professor of Theatre and faculty Technical Director. He teaches courses in Theatre Production, Stage Management and Dramatic Literature and his articles on theatre safety, management and education have appeared nationally in Stage Directions magazine, Teaching Theatre and the quarterly journal Theatre Design and Technology. As a Susquehanna University faculty member, Viker has served on the committees for Admissions and Student Life and the Academic Honesty Judicial Board.

“I am dedicated to conservative stewardship of community resources on Selinsgrove’s borough council, and I teach efficient business operations, safety and management every day,” he says. “I hope my resource management experience, problem-solving skills and practical worldview can be of service to the people of District 85.”
