Bats All Over The World!
![]() |
I like bats! I had one live in my window for a summer until they cleaned the siding and scared him off. At first I thought he was ugly but when I got REAL close (through the screen) he was very cute. I could pet him if I wanted to. He would sleep all day and then fly off to |
eat bugs all night. Most mornings he would come back to my window. We hoped he would come back this spring, but he never did. My dad and I are going to build a bat house and hang it on our chimney. Maybe we'll even paint the Batman logo on it! I hope it works!

About Bats
During the day bats go into caves to sleep. During the night they go in and out of their caves to eat three meals a night. Some bats eat fruit, fish, blood (ugh!), bugs, and nectar and pollen from flowers. Vampire bats walk on the ground. Vampire bats live in Central and South America.
Mother bats carry their young. They had better hold on tight! If they falls off their moms, or off the ceiling of the cave, they will die because there are bugs that live on the floor of the cave which eat bats!
This
picture was sent to me by someone in South America who found my page. She studies biology
at the University in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in a project called "Urban Bats" at
the Zoo. Her name is Leticia Bosshard and I
thank her for this picture!
