In late June 2006, a slow-moving weather front took position right over our local area and dropped great amounts of precipitation over a prolonged period of time. This resulted in flooding that affected many of our area's residences and roads.
By the morning of Thursday, June 29, the heavy rains had ended but many roads were still closed, particularly around PJ and Matamoras as they had to wait for the river to drop below flood stage. The following data and predictions were posted on the NOAA website as of 4:49am on that morning.

THE FLOOD WARNING CONTINUES FOR
THE DELAWARE RIVER AT PORT JERVIS.
* UNTIL THIS AFTERNOON.
* AT 04 AM THURSDAY THE STAGE WAS 19.7 FEET.
* MINOR FLOODING IS OCCURRING AND MINOR FLOODING IS FORECAST.
* FLOOD STAGE IS 18.0 FEET.
* THE RIVER IS FALLING AND WILL CONTINUE TO FALL.
