The
Restoration Begins
- The
seats, racks, interior walls, ceilings and floor were removed to
inspect the structural frame. As expected with a 30 year old Eagle,
the frame in the wheel well and window areas was badly rusted. In
spite of the fact that Eagle frames rust out, they can be easily
repaired with some welding ability and determination. In my opinion,
the ride of the Eagle Torsilastic suspension system is worth the work
of restoring the frame.
- The bottom of the two
front suspension bulkheads were mostly gone. Hours of
cutting, grinding, shaping and fitting restored them to as good as
new. All the repaired areas were then coated with POR-15
Rust Preventive Paint.
- After many weeks of
fabricating I can begin to anticipate another 30 years of service
from this old bird.
