MIDDLE CREEK CEMETERY
Polk Twp., Monroe Co., PA

Aka: St. Timothy Evangelical Church, Smith's Church, Smith's Corners. This small, hard to find, cemetery is located about three miles due west of the village of Effort and about one and a half miles northeast of the Middle Creek Church. From Brodheadsville on Route 209, turn north on Route 115. After driving for about three miles, bear left at the fork for 1/10 of a mile to another paved road on the left. Turn left and follow this road for about two and a half miles. Look for a dirt road leading up hill on the right. Turn up the dirt road and follow it to the cemetery, which is laid out on both sides of the dirt road surrounded by farm fields. The Methodist Church, located at the next intersection of the paved road, was built in 1866 as St. Timothy Evangelical Church. Despite its remote location, the cemetery is well maintained. There are about 100 marked gravesites. The earliest burial is dated 1872 and the cemetery is still in use. The most prominent family buried here is the Smith family. The 1870's atlas of Polk Township shows a Leonard Smith living approximately at the current site of the cemetery and a P. Smith living nearby. Other families buried here are Andrews, Baumgartner, Gildner, Kibler, Lenhart, Longacre and Setzer.
