Bucks County
1. 1682 - 1684, William Penn organized Bucks, Chester and Philadelphia Counties.
2. 1737, The Walking Purchase and other agreements added territory to Bucks County, creating a county that included 1/6 to 1/5 of the state of Pennsylvania.
Northampton County- Formed from Bucks County on March 11, 1752. It was partitioned into other Counties.
1. Northumberland County (1772) was the parent to:
- Luzerne County, 1786, was split to form Ontario/ Bradford County, 1810, Suquehannah County, 1810, Wyoming County, 1842, and Lackawanna County, 1878)
- Lycoming County, 1795, was split to form Sullivan County in 1847.
- Columbia County, 1813
2. Wayne County (1798), along the Upper Delaware River, was created, and became parent to Pike County in 1814.
3. Schuylkill County (1811) included a part of Northampton County, adjacent to what is now Carbon County.
4. Lehigh County (1812)
5. Monroe County (1836) included southern Pike County.
6. Carbon County (1843)
