dogmatic            adj         characterized by an authoritative, arrogant assertion of unproved or unprovable principles The dogmatic minister did not care to listen to scientific proof that would contradict his theology; he stood by the word inflexibly.

hedonistic           adj         Pursuit of or devotion to pleasure, especially to the pleasures of the senses. The millionaire playboy devoted himself to a hedonistic pursuit of pleasure and indulgence; he never cared about the poor for a second.

impute                 v           1. To charge with the fault or responsibility for: The engineers imputed the rocket failure to a faulty gasket. My grandfather kindly imputed my clumsiness to inexperience. 2. To attribute; credit: We are envious of the gracefulness so often imputed to cats.

insipid                 adj        dull, flat, lacking interest or taste I could not stand the insipid flavor the chicken broth that was nothing but chicken--no salt, no spice, nothing but chicken. We soon grew tired of his idiotic and insipid comments during the professor's lecture.

investiture           n           The act or formal ceremony of conferring the authority and symbols of a high office. We could not wait to attend my brother's investiture into the priesthood; he had been working for it for so long.

inveterate           adj        characterized by longstanding habit or behavior, usually negative Uncle Rosco, an inveterate womanizer, was married and divorced six times because his his clandestine affairs.
