Hamlet Paper Requirements
4 pages minimum: 20 pts. lost per page that it is short.
Two outside sources BESIDES the play. Make sure that the sources are reputable and authoritative; the web page of some kid from Poughkeepsie Jr. HS is NOT an authoritative source. Use the resources of the library and of Galenet to get it right.
Seven quotations OR MORE from the play. Make sure that the parenthetical format for these citations is as follows: "To be or not to be, that is the question" (III, i, 35-36). NOTE: The parentheses goes AFTER the quotation mark, followed by the citation, followed by another parentheses, followed by the concluding period. The period ALWAYS comes last.
Self-check list MUST be completely filled out and attached to the front of the paper.
Bibliography must be in proper MLA format. The proper appearance for the play you read is as follows:
Shakespeare, William. The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark. The Riverside Shakespeare. Ed. G. Blakemore Evans. Boston: Houghton, Mifflin, Company, 1974. 1135-1197.
(Important note: The above entry must have a hanging indent; that is, the second and each succeeding line must be indented below the top line! I cannot do it in this format, so the appearance is not correct).
PENALTIES: You will be assessed a 20 pt. penalty for every page that you fall short of 4--in 5 pt. increments. You will also be assessed a 20 pt. penalty for every day that the paper is late. THIS INCLUDES DAYS YOU ARE ABSENT!!
