![]() | The Slumbering Lodge The Slumbering Lodge of Hibernating Governors was founded in 1908 by George Washington Hensel Jr. of Quarryville, PA. Mr. Hensel died in 1943 but his Lodge lives on, with over 200 reported members. The Lodge inducts a few new "baby groundhogs" each year. They wear diapers and baby bonnets during their strenuous training regimen; only after they have passed the test are they entitled to wear the traditional garb of the Hibernating Governors: a nightshirt (signifying the slumber of the One True Groundhog) and a top hat. The current head of the Hibernating Governors is James Pennington.
