| Biery, Esther M. Source: The Morning Call Newspaper, Allentown, Pennsylvania Date: 13 November 1982 Mrs. Esther M. Biery, 88, of Allentown R2, died Tuesday in the Allentown and Sacred Heart Hospital Center after being stricken in her home. She was the widow of John W. Biery. She and her husband were co-operators of the J.W. Biery and Co. grocery store, 11th and Linden streets, Allentown for many years before retiring in the early 1950's. Born in Allentown, she was a daughter of the late William S. and Katie I. (Bankhard) Bogert. She was a member of Zion's Reformed United Church of Christ, Allentown. Surviving is a sister, Naomi I. of Allentown. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Stephen's Funeral Home, 1335-37 Linden St., Allentown. A calling hour will precede the services. |

(Bogert) Biery, died Sunday in Allentown Hospital. Born in Lower Macungie Township, he was a son of the late James W. and Lesta (Wenner) Biery. He was a member of Zion's United Church of Christ. Until his retirement 13 years ago, he had operated a grocery store at 11th and Linden streets in Allentown for 29 years. Surviving is his widow. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the Stephen's Funeral Home, 1335-37 Linden St., Allentown. Viewing will be 7-8- p.m. tomorrow. |
| Bogert, Albert J. Source: The Morning Call Newspaper, Allentown, Pennsylvania Date: Sunday, 1 April 1951 Albert J. Bogert, 55, of Vera Cruz, who owned the Connico Gas Co., at that place for many years until sale of the property several years ago, when he retired, died at 9 a.m. yesterday at his home following several months illness. He was the husband of the former Stella Bittenbender. He conducted a garage at Limeport prior to operating the gas station. He was native of Allentown, a son of the late William V. and Tillie (Stull) Bogert. He was affiliated with the Alburtis Fire Co., Citizens Fire Co. No. 2, of Emmaus, and the Reformed congregation of the Chestnut Hill church. Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters: Pearl, wife of John Roth, Zion Hill, and Mae, wife of William Rinker, Emmaus R.1; a son, William, Emmaus R.1; a brother, William, Baltimore, Md.; a sister, Pearl, wife of Myron Merkle, Slatington R.1; and three grandchildren. |
| Bogert, Alberta Stella Source: The Morning Call Newspaper, Allentown, Pennsylvania Date: Tuesday, 19 May 1931 Alberta Stella Bogert, aged one month and six days, died yesterday at the home of her parents, Albert and Stella Bittenbender Bogert, at Limeport. Her illness was of only several days duration. She is survived by her parents, two sisters, Pearl and may, and a brother William. The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 21, from the home of the parents in Limeport. Interment will be made at the Greenwood cemetery in Allentown. |

Bogert, 912 Hanover Ave., died Monday morning in Allentown hospital. She was hospitalized since July 19. Mrs. Bogert was born in North Whitehall township, the daughter of the late David and Rebecca (Heintzelman) Roth. She was a member of Dubb's Memorial Evangelical and Reformed church and was affiliated with Alexander Hamilton Council, No. 28, Daughters of America. Surviving her are two daughters, Blanche Bogert, at home and Alice, wife of Lewis Reichel, Los Angeles, Calif.; a son Edwin D., Allentown; and a sister Mrs. Laura Steckel, Stiles. Seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive. |

He was a propane operator at Dana Corp., Reading, for 30 years before retiring in 1999. Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late Edwin V. and Alice L. (Berk) Bogert. He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Bowers. He was a member, and master-at-arms, in 1998, of Lost in the 50's, Lehigh County. Bogert, 1838 Chew St., was found dead in the family residence about 5 o'clock yesterday afternoon by her husband Victor H. Bogert upon his return from work. Mrs. Bogert had been suffering for some time from a nervous heart affliction. She was born in Lower Macungie township, a daughter of the late Owen and Lillie T., nee Kuhns, Kern but spent most of her life in this city. She was a member of the Reformed wing of the Western Salisbury church and was affiliated with the Lady Lincoln Rebekah lodge. Surviving are her husband, a son, Kenneth J. Bogert, at home; her stepfather, Harry C. Mill, this city and two sisters, Minerva, wife of Allen Diefenderfer, Berwin, Pa., and Mrs. Mame Mohr, Wescosville. |

Bogert, who operated the Bogert Shoe Repair Shop in Allentown many years ago, died at 10:45 p.m. Sunday at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bogert, Alburtis R.1. Mrs. Bogert had been in ill health for six months. She was born in Allentown, the daughter of the late Henry C. and Emma Woodring Johnson, and had made her home in Alburtis for the last two months. She was a member of Christ Evangelical and Reformed church, Allentown, and of the church's Ladies Aid society. Survivors include three sons, Harold, with whom she made her home, Russell, Trenton, N.J., and Thomas, Allentown; one daughter, Agnes, wife of John Schulz, Milwaukee, Wis.; two sisters, Mrs. Mame Gearhart, and Mrs. Lillian McNabb, both of Allentown. 11 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren. Her husband, Lewis, preceded her in death 12 years ago. |

Source: The Morning Call Newspaper, Allentown, Pennsylvania Date: Saturday, 21 February 1931 Following a long illness from complications, Mrs. Emma J., nee Hottenstein, wife of John Bogert, an aged and esteemed resident of Emaus, died there at her home, 307 North Third street, Friday morning at 2 o'clock, aged 70 years, 9 months and 11 days. Mrs. Bogert was born near this city, a daughter of the late John and Marietta, nee Kline, Hottenstein. She was a member of Western Salisbury church, Reformed wing for many years and was active in the affairs of the Ladies Aid and Home department of the Sunday school of the church. There survive her husband, one daughter, Meda, at home, and three sons, Victor, this city; Clinton, Emaus, and Roman, Allentown R.5. Seven grandchildren and the following sisters and brother also survive, Mrs. Jacob Trumbauer and Mrs. Charles Walbert, Allentown; Mrs. Jacob Reinhard, Emaus, and Victor Hottenstein, MacClesfield, Victoria, Australia. The funeral will be held from her late home on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. Regular services and burial at Western Salisbury church. Rev. D.E. Schaeffer will officiate. |

| Bogert, Harvey Source: The Morning Call Newspaper, Allentown, Pennsylvania Date: 29 December 1950 Man 70, found dead slumped over table. The body of Harvey Bogert about 70, who according to Coroner George S. Boyer died of a heart attack yesterday morning, was released to the Charles Becker Funeral home in the afternoon. Bogert was found slumped over the kitchen table at his home at 832 Gordon St. by a trucker, Leno Reck, according to police. Dr. Boyer set time at death at about 9:30 a.m. Reck notified police and Det. Elmer Horner investigated and summoned Dr. Boyer. |
| Bogert, Hiram J. Source: The Morning Call Newspaper, Allentown, Pennsylvania Date: Monday, 13 May 1901 Hiram J. Bogert, a leading citizen of Emaus, died suddenly Friday night of heart disease at his home in that place. He was 60 years of age and was a son of the late John Bogert. He was born on the old Bogert farm in Salisbury, where he spent many years of his life. Later he was a member of the firm of Bogert & Neumeyer, merchants of Emaus. He retired last fall. He is survived by his wife and one son, besides several brothers and sisters. |
| Bogert, James Tilghman Source: The Morning Call Newspaper, Allentown, Pennsylvania Date: Sunday, 26 December 1937, page 9 James Bogert of 502 1/2 Wyoming St., Watchman at the S.M.S. Silk Co. died in the Sacred Heart hospital Thursday after an illness of only a few days. He was in his 63rd year. Mr. Bogert was a son of the late Tilghman and Sarah, nee Muth, Bogert. He was a member of the Coopersburg P.O.S. of A., the Fairview Fire Co., and the Firemen's Relief association. His only survivors are several brothers and sisters, all out of town. Rev. C.A. Neudoerffer will officiate at services from the Derr funeral home, 40 E. Susquehanna St., Tuesday at 3:30 o'clock. Interment will be made in St. Mark's cemetery. |

John Bogert, retired farmer, died Saturday night at his home, 307 N. 3rd St., Emmaus in his 86th year. He had been bedfast only a few weeks. Mr. Bogert was born at Bogert's Bridge a familiar spot in Lehigh Parkway, a son of Solomon and Sarah (Reinhard) Bogert. He farmed in that vicinity for many years retiring 23 years ago when he moved to Emmaus. He was a member of Western Salisbury church, the Reformed congregation and Wescosville commandery of the Knights of Malta. Surviving are three sons and a daughter, Victor, Roman, both of Allentown; Clinton of Emmaus and Meta Bogert at home. There also are six grandchildren. His wife preceded him in death 10 years ago. The funeral will be held from Reinsmith's Funeral home, 32 N. 4th St., Emmaus, Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. Regular services and interment will follow at Western Salisbury Church. The Rev. D.D. Bogert, 83, of Allentown, died Wednesday in Liberty Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Allentown. He was a salesman, consultant and appraiser for Appel Jewelers Inc., Allentown, for 13 years before retiring in 1985. He was also a buyer for P.A. Freeman Jewelers, Allentown, for 17 years. Before that, he was an interior designer for Mayfair Inc., New York City, and the former Sumney and Werner, Allentown. His first art job, as a teen-ager, was dressing windows for Hess's, Allentown. Bogert a watercolorist, did illustrations for the 1948 Rodale Press edition of Bulfinch's "Age of Fable." He had one man shows at the Parkway Museum, Philadelphia, in 1948, and the Allentown Art Museum in 1952. He also exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and Woodmere Art Gallery, Philadelphia; Montclair Art Museum, Montclair, N.J.; Lehigh University; Muhlenberg College, and other New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Florida locations. He was a graduate of the Parsons School of Design Paris Atelier, Place des Vosges, Paris. Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late Victor H. and Ella S.M. (Kern) Bogert. He was a member of Jerusalem United Church of Christ of Western Salisbury, Salisbury Township. One of the original members of the Allentown Symphony, he helped restore Symphony Hall during the 1950's. He also created the decor for the Symphony's "Rhapsody in Blue" balls. In 1948, he chaired fundraising efforts for the Allentown Art Museum which was the in the planning stages. He coordinated and catalogued an art exhibit held that year, which raised $3,000 to purchase the North Sixth Street Church as the museum's home. He also converted his design file, which he started in paris in 1931, into a decorative arts file which he recently donated to the museum. In 1939, he won first prize for an art deco bedroom design in a national competition sponsored by the Grand Rapids (Mich.) Furniture Museum. In 1935, he was one of 35 founders of the Lehigh Art Alliance. For the next 23 years, he held various offices in the Alliance and served as a director. Survivors: Stepmother, Daisy M. | Bogert, Leroy S. Source: The Morning Call Newspaper, Allentown, Pennsylvania Date: Thursday, 24 September 1987, page B12 LeRoy S. Bogert, 75, of 205 E. Federal St., Allentown former Allentown mayoral candidate and building contractor died Wednesday in Allentown Osteopathic Medical Center. Supporting a strong mayoral city government and opposing public housing. Bogert ran for the post more than eight times between 1951 and 1977. In the 1973 election, after his surprising upset of Republican incumbent Republican Mayor Clifford S. Bartholomew in the May primary. Bogert was defeated by Joseph Daddona. During the 1967 run for the GOP nomination, Bogert was defeated by Dr. Samuel S. Fenstermacher. Bogert opposed public institutionalized housing, waging an unsuccessful drive and law suit against the Cumberland Gardens Project. He supported a spur route linking routes 22 and 309, and tax relief for senior citizens, saying it was better for them to be able to afford to stay in their own homes, rather than be forced into public housing. He also opposed fluoridation and a high salaried city administration, as too costly. At the time of his death, he owned Bogert's Antiques and Car Wash, Allentown. Before that, owned the former Bogert's Pharmacy, Allentown, and was a self-employed building contractor and developer for 45 years, retiring in 1970. Born in Old Zionsville, he was a son of the late Solomon H. and Stella V. (Deysher) Bogert. He was a member of St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church, Allentown. He served with the Coast Guard during World War II. Bogert was a former president of the South Side Republican Club. Surviving is a sister, Beatrice C., wife of Frank Sofranek of Allentown. Services at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Werley-Knopp Funeral Home, 46 E. Susquehanna St., Allentown, will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in the church. | Bogert, Lewis Source: The Morning Call Newspaper, Allentown, Pennsylvania Date: Friday, 19 May 1939 "Allentown Shoe Repairman Would Have Been 70 Sunday" Looking forward to marking his 70th birthday anniversary on Sunday, Lewis Bogert, who had been in ill health since last September passed away at 12:40 a.m. yesterday at his home, 547 N. 10th St. A shoe repairman all his life, he had conducted a shoe repair shop at his residence for many years. He was born in Clearwater, N.J., the son of Samuel and Mary, nee Wright, Bogert, and had lived in this city since he was six years old. He was an active member of Christ Reformed church and also held membership in the local chapter of the Loyal Order of Moose. Besides his wife, nee Carrie Johnson, he is survived by three sons, Russell of Trenton, N.J., Harold of Alburtis and Thomas of Allentown; one daughter, Mrs. Agnes Schultz, Watertown, Wis.; Two brothers, Walter and William of Allentown; four sisters, Mrs. Harry Roth, Mrs. Charles Clauser and Mrs. Millie Sechrist, all of this city, and Mrs. Harvey Taylor of Spring Valley. Bogert was a member of Church of the Good Shepherd United Church of Christ, Alburtis. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a past post commander and chaplain of the Breinigsville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8282. Surviving with his widow are three daughters, Susan G., wife of Robert P. Moyer of Emmaus, Brenda H., wife of David J. Moyer of Macungie R.1, and Sharon, wife of Carter K. Born in North Whitehall township, Lehigh county, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Ellen Laubach Miller. Mrs. Bogert was a member of the Reformed wing of St. Mark's church, Allentown. Surviving are husband; six daughters, Mrs. Jennie Dunton, and Mrs. Lillian Reimert, both of Allentown; Mrs. Gertrude Zellers, Bethlehem; Mrs. Margaret Thomas, Allentown; Dorothy, Kansas City, Kansas; and Mildred at home; four sons, Edwin, Slatington; Roman, New Tripoli; Staff Sergeant Ear, Port Riley, Kansas; and Paul, U.S. Army in Calif.; ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren. | Bogert, Samuel Source: The Morning Call Newspaper, Allentown, Pennsylvania Date: Saturday, 25 August 1923 Samuel Bogert, well known resident of the northern part of the city, and the last of a family of thirteen, died Friday at noon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George P. Sechrist, 931 North Fifth street, in his 86th year. Death was the result of apoplexy with which he was stricken ten days ago. He was born at Bogert's Bridge, Western Salisbury township, the son of Jacob and Anna (nee Wilt) Bogert. He came to this city in 1876 and has lived here ever since. His wife Mary R. Wright Bogert died fourteen years ago. By trade Mr. Bogert was a carpenter. He was a member of Zion Reformed church and of the English Bible class at that church. Besides Mrs. Sechrist, he is survived by three other daughters; Mrs. Charles P. Clauser, Mrs. Harry Roth, of Allentown and Mrs. Harry Taylor of near Center Valley; three sons, William S, Lewis H. and Walter J. Bogert, of Allentown. Thirty-eight grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be held at the home of Mrs. Sechrist on Tuesday at 2 p.m. Interment in Greenwood cemetery. Rev. S. She had been bedfast five weeks. Mrs. Bogert was born near Grimsville, Berks county, and made her home in this city forty years. She was a member of Grimsville Lutheran congregation. Mrs. Bogert's mother had lived to the age of 105, while her father died at the age of 97. There survive the following children: Mrs. Ellen Hertzog, Harvey, Vera Cruz. The funeral will be held on Wednesday afternoon, with services at the home at 2 o'clock, followed by burial in Greenwood cemetery. Rev. Dr. George Greiss will officiate. |

She was 88. Miss Bogert was a descendant of Peter Bogert, who came to this country from Germany in 1744. His descendants built the bridge in 1841. Born in Allentown, she was a daughter of the late Mathias S. and Caroline E. (Schafroth) Bogert. She was a lifelong resident of the city. Miss Bogert was a member of Salem United Church of Christ, Allentown, since 1878. She also was active in the church organizations and auxiliaries to various UCC church institutions. Her only survivors are cousins. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Salem UCC, Allentown, with viewing at the church from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday and from noon Tuesday until time of services. |

Besides his aged wife Mr. Bogert is survived by four children, Oscar, Harvey and William Bogert and Mrs. Ellen Hertzog of this city; four brothers, Samuel, James, Tilghman and Amandes Bogert of this city, and a sister, Mrs. Elvina Miller of Emaus. Bogert for practically all of his life identified with the retail grocery business in Allentown and at one time a Hamilton St. merchant, died at 10:30 o'clock last night at his home, 1416 Linden St., after being ill since Aug. 11. He was 82 years old last week. At one time, an employee of the old Knerr Seed Co. that was one of the city's best known retail stores more than a half century ago, he became a partner of the firm of Major and Bogert that for many years operated the store at 707 Hamilton St. For the last 26 years he was associated with his son-in-law, J.W. Biery as a partner in the grocery store at 11th and Linden Sts. Mr. Bogert was born in Phillipsburg, the son of the late Samuel and Mary, nee Wright, Bogert. He was a member of Zion Reformed church and the Adult Bible class of the Sunday school. Surviving are his wife, the former Katie L. Bankhardt; two daughters, Esther, wife of John W. Biery, Dorneyville, R.D., and Naomi, at home, a clerk in the city treasurer's office; a brother, Walter, Allentown; three sisters, Mr. Harry Roth and Mrs. Millie Sechrist, Allentown R.4; and by several nieces and nephews. Bogert, died Monday night at his home, 404 N. 12th St., Allentown, after he was sstricken by a heart attack. He was 76. He was affiliated with the flour business for 60 years. For the first 35 years, he worked as manager of the Allentown branch of the Mauser Milling Co. He was on the job until 5 p.m. Monday, but beccame ill after the evening meal at home. Before coming to the Mauser Co. he was employed for 30 years as manager of the Shelly estate. In addition, he held the position as director of Fogelsville National Bank since 1930. A native of Wescosville, he was a son of the late Benjamin and Matilda Bogert and as better known as "the straw hat man," a title he received because he wore a straw hat 12 months in the year. Bogert was a member of the 12th Baptist Church, where he was a teacher of a Bible Class; a member of Jordan Lodge 673, F and AM; Post L, TPA, and Chamber of Commerce. He also was affiliated with the Lehigh Valley Dairy. Surviving are his wife, the former Carrie Koeffler, at home, and two daughters, Naomi, wife of Robert T. Harris, Drexel Hill, and Ruth, wife of Curtis F. Bicker, Philadelphia; two grandchildren and a brother Milton, Allentown. Bogert was preceded in death by his parents and first wife, the former Mary Walp, and a son William. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. at Home, 1625 Highland St., Allentown. |

Mrs. Hertzog was born in Salisbury township, the daughter of the late William and Sarah Bogert. She resided for a number of years in Allentown but several years ago moved to Shimerville. Her husband who built churches and homes in this city, preceded his wife in death five years ago. She is survived by three children, Mrs. Paul Renner and Arthur Hertzog, Shimerville and Mrs. Ben Wragg, Allentown, also by two brothers, Oscar of Allentown, and Harvey, of near Emaus. Heintzelman, New Tripoli, died fro complications at this late home about 7:30 p.m. Saturday. A farmer all his life he lived in the upper part of Lehigh county during his 79 years, 9 months and 11 days. Ill since April of this year he was bedfast for the past two weeks. Mr. Heintzelman was the son of the late Joseph and Sussanna (Rauch) Heintzelman and was born in Weisenberg twp., Lehigh county. His wife Polly (Snyder) preceded him in death some 16 years ago. Surviving are one son Ralph, New Tripoli; five daughters, Mrs. Henry Fenstermaker, New Tripoli R.1, Mrs. Sylvester Wannamaker, Germansville, R.1, Mrs. Wilson Snyder, New Tripoli, R.1, Mrs. Daisy Baush, 632 N. 16th St., this city, and Mrs. Charles Zimmerman, Maxatawny; two sisters, Mrs. Emma Kocher, New Tripoli, R.F.D., Mrs. Lydia DeLong, Lafayette, Indiana; 24 grandchildren, and 29 great grandchildren. He was a member of the Lutheran wing, Ebenezer Union church, New Tripoli, and the Jr Order of Untied Mechanics, New Tripoli. Funeral services will be held at his late home in New Tripoli on Wednesday at 1 o'clock. Church services are to be continued in the New Tripoli church. Woodlawn St., Allentown, a member of an old Lehigh County family, died yesterday in the Allentown Osteopathic Hospital. She was a descendant of Peter Bogert who came to the United States in 1744. It was one of his descendants and forefather of Mrs. Taylor who built Bogert's Bridge in 1841. Born in Allentown, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Mary (Wright) Bogert. She was the widow of Harvey S. Taylor, who had been president of the Upper Saucon Township Board of Supervisors for many years. She resided in Allentown for about the last year, and before that lived on Taylor Boulevard, Center Valley RD, which was named after the Taylor family. She was a member of Little Zion Lutheran Church, Telford.
