Freda Bracken, 75, of South Whitehall Township died Friday, June 27, in her home. She was the wife of Joseph A. Bracken. They were married 54 years this month. She was a sewing machine operator for the former Modern Clothing Co., Allentown, for 21 years, retiring in 1967. Born in Allentown, she was a daughter of the late Mike and Minnie (Albert) Davis. She was a member of St. George Orthodox Church, Allentown, and past president of its auxiliary. She was one of the founding members and past president of the Lehigh Association of Retarded Citizens. Survivors: Husband; son, Joseph A. Jr. and daughter, Kathleen M., wife of Robert Miller, both of Allentown; brothers, Fred, David and Richard, all of Allentown, and Joseph of Mystic Islands, N.J., and sisters, Helen Nuben and Marion Transue, both of Allentown, Anna Reichel of Breinigsville, and Julie Kinsey of North Kingstown, R.I. Joseph A. Bracken, 83, of Allentown, died Friday, July 27, in his home. He was the husband of the late Frieda (Davis) Bracken. He was a crane operator for Bethlehem Steel Corp. for 42 years before retiring in 1980. Born in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Joseph and Ida M. (Ellsworth) Bracken. He was a member of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, Allentown. Survivors: Son, Andy of Pennsburg; daughter, Kathleen Miller of Allentown; brother, Richard of Allentown; sisters, Elizabeth Shook of Allentown, Margaret Lynn of Clearfield, Dorothy of Nazareth; nieces and nephews. Mike Davis, 67; Scrapyard Founder
Mike Davis, vendor, huckster and founder of the Mike Davis & Son scrapyard, died last night in his home at 619 N. 2nd St., Allentown. He was 67. Born in Syria; he was a son of the late Mr. & Mrs. Dayoub Davis. He came to this country in 1912 and a year later settled in Allentown. He founded the scrapyard 25 years ago. He was a member of St. George Syrian Orthodox Church. He was also a member of the Pennsylvania Magistrates Association. Surviving are his widow, Minnie (Albert) Achey Davis; four sons, Fred and David of Allentown, Joseph of Coopersburg and Richard, at home; five daughters, Helen, wife of Joseph Nuben; Frieda, wife of Joseph Bracken, and Julia, wife of Fred Erick Kinsey, all of Allentown; Anna, wife of Floyd Reichel of Breinigsville, and Mrs. Marian Transue at home; 22 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a brother, George, and a sister, Sonya, both in Syria. Services will be announced by the Weber Funeral Home, 502 Ridge Ave., Allentown.

Mrs. Minnie Davis, 75, of 619 N. 2nd St., Allentown, died Wednesday in Allentown Hospital. She was the widow of Mike Davis, founder of the Mike Davis & Sons scrapyard, who died in 1962. Born in Syria, she was a daughter of the late Aboud and Helen Achey. She came to the United States in 1913. She was a member of St. George Orthodox Church, Allentown. Surviving are four sons, Fred, David, Richard and Joseph, all of Allentown; five daughters, Helen, wife of Joseph Nuben; Mrs. Marion Transue, Frieda, wife of Joseph Bracken, and Julia, wife of Frederick Kinsey, all of Allentown, and Anna, wife of Floyd Reichel of Breinigsville; two sisters, Sophia and Zakie, both of Syria; 22 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Weber Funeral Home, 502 Ridge Ave., Allentown, with continued services at 11 a.m. in the church. Calling hours will be 7-9 p.m. Friday.

Fred Davis, 81, passed away April 15, 2005 in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. He was the husband of Genevieve (Noti) Davis for 60 years. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Mike and Minnie (Achey) Davis. He was a partner of the family owned scrap metal and recycling business, Mike Davis & Sons, started by his father iin the 1930's. He retired in 2002. He was a member of St. George's Antiochian Orthodox Church, where he was a longtime council member. He was a veteran of World War II. He was active in the V.F.W. and the American Legion and T.P.A. Post L. He was a life member of the Cross Keys Social Club, Allentown, and the West Catasauqua and Fullerton fire companies. Survivors:Wife: sons, Michael C. and his wife, Bonnie, Fred DAvis Jr. and his wife, Nadia; daughter, Tina M. and her husband, James F. Alotta Sr., all of Allentown; sister, Helen Nuben, Marion Transue of Allentown, Julia Kinsey in Rhode Island; sister-in-law, Helen Davis; brothers, David "Sheik" of Allentown and Joseph Davis in New Jersey; grandsons, Sean McClafferty, Michael C. Genevieve Davis, 83, of Allentown, passed away September 21, 2006, at the home of her daughter, Tina, wife of James F. Alotta Sr. of Allentown, where she had been battling her illness for the past several months. Born in Hudson, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Charles and Hannah (Day) Noti. On December 11, 1944, she married Fred Davis, with whom she celebrated 60 years of marriage. Her late husband was a partner of the family-owned scrap metal and recycling business, Mike Davis & Sons, that was started in the 1930s by her father-in-law. Genevieve was a member of St. Georges Antiochian Orthodox Church, Allentown, where she was a past member of the Ladies Altar Society. She worked for Lehigh Cigar Factory and Western Electric, and was a sewing machine operator at several area factories. Genevieve will be remembered as a strong and loving mother, grandmother and friend. Survivors: Sons, Michael C., husband of Bonita, and Fred Davis Jr., husband of Nadia, all of Allentown; daughter, Tina, wife of James; grandsons, Sean McClafferty, Michael C. Davis II, Marc C. Davis, James F. Alotta Jr., Anthony Davis; granddaughter, Julie Davis; sisters, Myrtle Marie Pagnano of Allentown, Bernadine Kershner of Fountain Hill. Richard Blackie Davis, 73, of Allentown, passed away March 3, 2005. He was the husband of Helen (Kainz) Davis for 50 years last July 11. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Mike and Minnie Davis. He was a member of St. Georges Antiochian Orthodox Church, Allentown. He served as vice president, past president for two terms, chairman and board member of the North End Republican Club. He worked for the family-owned scrap metal and metal recycling business his father started in the 1930s. Harry E. Nuben, 83, of Tamarac, Fla., formerly of Whitehall Township, died Saturday, Dec. 20, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He was the husband of Naomi (Solomon) Nuben for 62 years. He was an ironworker for 30 years before retiring. Born in Northampton, he was a son of the late John and Rufene (Smith) Nuben. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving on the SS African Dawn. He was a member of the Jones Quigg Post of the American Legion, Whitehall; Moose Lodge, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Cross Keys Association. Survivors: Wife; daughters, Maureen S. Helen Nuben, 92, of Allentown, passed away on April 13, 2008 at the Lehigh Valley Hospice Inpatient Unit, Allentown. She was the loving wife of the late Joseph J. Nuben who died on January 6, 1977. Born in Wilkes Barre, she was a daughter of the late Mike and Minnie (Achey) Davis. She was a member of St. Georges Antiochian Orthodox Church, Allentown. She worked for various Allentown Fabric Mills for many years before retiring. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Arlene; two sisters, Anna Reichel and Freda Bracken, and two brothers, Richard Davis and Frederick Davis. Survivors: Sons, Joseph J. Nasef A. "Nate" Solomon, 81, of Whitehall Township, died Nov. 30 in Sacred Heart Hospital, Allentown. He was married to Elaine E. (Johns) Solomon for 54 years in August. A member of the International Association of Bridge, Structural and Ornamental Iron Workers Union 36, Whitehall, he assisted in the construction of Martin Towers, Homer Research Laboratory of Bethlehem Steel Corp. and buildings at Lehigh University, all of Bethlehem, and Muhlenberg College, Allentown. He helped with construction of high rise structures in the area. Born in Fogelsville, he was a son of the late Michael and Mary (Audey) Solomon. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Hokendauqua, Whitehall, and a former trustee and helped initiate the young married couples group. He was an Army veteran of World War II, attaining the rank of staff sergeant in the Third Army Medical Corps. He was a member of Catasauqua Southwark Bowling League at the Coplay Saegerbund. Survivors: Wife; daughters, Debra S. Ranck of Summit Hill, Janet M. Gerard H. Transue, 34, of 619 N. 2nd St., Allentown, husband of Marion (Davis) Transue, died Monday at 3:25 p.m. in Allentown Hospital. He had been in failing health for the last two weeks and had been a hospital patient since that time. Born in Allentown, he was a son of Robert Transue and the late Florence Transue. From June 17, 1943 to Nov. 11, 1945, he served as a metalsmith third class in the Navy and spent 20 months overseas. His last employment was as an inspector at Roller-Smith Co. until he retired due to ill health. He was a member of St. George Syrian Orthodox Church and the West Catasauqua Fire Hall. Surviving are two children, Beverly Ann and Gerard M., both at home; his father, Robert, in Nazareth; two brothers, Robert, Northampton, and Larue, Allentown; and one sister, Althea, wife of Earl Hoch, Nazareth.
