Numerology is the study of numbers, and the way they indicate certain aptitudes and character tendencies.  The first question I asked when I started looking into numerology was: how does it work?? I've come to the conclusion that no one truly knows, and all we have is speculation.  Now, for some people, numerology may be kind of vague, as in the case of my Husband, who has a hard time seeing any interrelation.  But for many, it can be eerily accurate The sum of the numbers in your birth date and the sum derived from the letters in one's name provide an interrelation of vibrations. These numbers show a great deal about character, purpose in life, motivation, and where talents may lie. Experts in numerology use the numbers to determine the best time for major moves and activities in life. Numerology is used to decide when to invest, when to marry, when to travel, when to change jobs, or relocate. First you find out your birth number by adding up your birthday. 

Say it is August 20, 1978 you would add: 8+2+0+1+9+7+8=35 You can't have a double digit number (with the exception of paired numbers, EX 11, 22 which are called Master Numbers) so you add the 3+5=8 the birth number would be 8.  This method is called  finding the Life Path:  This vibration is at the heart of your being during this life. It tells you what you are really like. Its qualities are described at the end of this section along with the other paths  Then you would do the same with your Birth name using the table below. (you don't have to use you Last name since it simply follows an entire family unless you're looking to find your family's number)

So lets say your name is Richard That would be: R=9, I=9, C=3, H=8, A=1, R=9, D=4 for a total of 43 then add 4+3=7 so your name number would be 7.  However if your name is Kirk, it would look like this: 

 Because Kirk adds up to 22, the name Kirk is a 22/4 name, and both numbers may apply  

This method of finding your number is called the Expression:  When embracing the qualities of this vibration, you find that your soul adds to its experiences, knowledge, and growth. In the Expression number, you will find evidence of your purpose. Sometimes natural abilities are also found within a person’s Expression number. This IS just meant as an introduction, and some of the descriptions of each number may be a little vague, since each number has a panoply of variational meanings. Your birth number symbolizes what you were born as, and perhaps what one should strive for, while one's name number symbolizes what one is now, or perhaps what one needs in one's life.

1-One- It's vibration embraces Leadership and courage such as: Independence, adventure, Initiative, Originality, Determination, Individuality, Direction

2-Two- It's vibration embraces the 'light-bearer. It's focus is Peacemaking and balance. Diplomacy, meditation, caution, Kindness, Sensitivity, cooperation, Emotion, Feeling, Intuition

5- Five-  Its vibration embraces freedom. Its focus is on Progression, new ideas and undertakings.  Expansiveness, Invention, Promotion, variety, adventure, Flexibility, Movement, Change.

6-Six- Its vibration embraces Responsibility.  With a focus on Humanity, and the treasures of Life.  Beauty, Creativity, Domesticity, Healing, Morality, Passion, Harmony, Trust, Serving.

7- Seven- Its vibration embraces Individuality.  With a focus on Wisdom and Knowledge.  Analysis, Research, Calculation, Understanding, perfection, the Unseen, Intuition, investigation, reason, vision, solitude.

8- Eight-  Its vibration embraces Manifestation.  With its focus being supervising with a sense of Judgment.  Power, Authority, Organization, Efficiency, Skill, Hard Work.

9- Nine-  Its vibration embraces Compassion.  With its focus being Universal Love, and Acceptance.  Creativity, Imagination, Benevolence, Impersonality, Intuition, Philanthropy, Emotion, generosity, devotion, dedication.

11- Eleven-  Its vibration embraces Illumination. With it a master number and can sometimes vibrate in synch with 2, or as 11.   As 11 it is of an energy that translates a world beyond the physical.  Aware, Sixth-sense, creative, dreamy, inspiring, intense.

22- Twenty-two-  This number is known as the 'Master-Builder'.  It is a Master Number, there fore 22 can vibrate as 4, or as 22.  As 22 it can help achieve what is hardly imaginable. Mastery of vast projects, Great achievement, Ingenuity, High Energy, Innovation, Idealism.

 Remember, each number has three ways it can be expressed.  Under balanced, Balanced, and Over Balanced.  For example: 3 can vibrate as: Under balanced- Shyness, Balanced- Expressive, and Over Balanced- Boastful.

Life Path

    This is found in your Birthday. This vibration is at the heart of your being during this life. It tells you what you are really like. Its qualities want to be utilized and acknowledged. It is what is innate and natural for you. opportunities, experiences, and lessons that you attract this life will ask for you to draw on the energies present in your Life Path  the  Life Path is also called the “Birth Force’ in some Numerology texts. to find this number simply add all the numbers in your birth date for example if someone was born august 15th 1973 they would add 8+1+5+1+9+7+3 (=34) to find their life path number of  7.

Birth Day

Your specific day of birth may direct you to added understanding of what you are here to do. For example, in the Birth Date of July 11th, the Birth Day is 11 (so the number is 11/2) Sometimes you will also find talents connected to this vibration since your Birth Day is a component of your Life Path This is derived from your birth name.  When embracing the qualities of this vibration, you find that your soul adds to its experiences, knowledge, and growth. In the Expression number, you will find evidence of your purpose. Sometimes natural abilities are also found within a person’s Expression number. Heart's Desire

     This vibration comes from the vowels in your name. so if your name is Adam, you'd take the numbers associated with A  (1+1=2) and get the number 2 as the heart number.   The Heart’s Desire provides insight into what your soul finds important, just, fair, etc. This is not to be taken lightly for it is a very wise part of you. I You will find your most essential motivations here. Your Heart’s Desire is a major part of your core since it beautifies and rounds out your character.  Heart’s Desire is also called “Soul Urge’ in some Numerology texts.

Personality 

    This is derived from the Consonants in your name. If your name is Adam you'd take the numbers associated with D and M to get the number 8.  The information within the Personality gives us an understanding of how others may attempt to see and direct us. It provides us with insight on which aspects of our personality others may recognize and validate. The influence the outer world has on us.

Many people new to paganism wonder how a ‘Magickal name’ is found.  Some people just pick ones that mean something to them, others pick names for their symbology and still others look to numerology.  Finding a Magickal Name that is numerically compatible with your name is fairly simple. Using the above table, find the number associated with you birth name then you'll have to play around with names a bit until you find one that matches your number.
