In 1999, my parents got me another little ferret for my Birthday.  She was a sweetheart, and hardly as big as my hand. She named herself a couple hours after she came home.  She was running around like a crazed  squirrel, and then collapsed in a little ball between my dog's front feet, and proceeded in cleaning Rowan's mouth and nose.. it was the sweetest little picture....and so Sugar was named. However, in a few days, she took to biting...hard... and she was very unruly, and generally seemed not to like me very much. And I remember thinking "It's ferrets like her that make people dislike them so!!". LS wasn't too fond of her either, and would  act all big and tough, but soon they established who was boss. In a few months (and a dozen threats to take her back), she decided I wasn't all bad, and actually seemed to tolerate me. Her and LS were partners in crime! One of them would distract Rowan, while the other would sneak up and steal one of her toys. She loved to steal things, and get into places I told her she wasn't allowed to go and wrestle, her favorite partner was our cat: Ashe, and she was trying to get our new cat, Faeden, to wrestle, but Faye's wasn't having any of it!  She finally came to like me, and took to riding on my shoulder, and finally learned to wrestle gently with me.  But she really disliked Raven! She'd go out of her way to bite him.  She could be in another room, and if Raven bent down for something, she'd come running out and attach herself to his hand (if he was too slow), usually hard enough to draw blood!  And it's only him.  She's the sweetest thing to me, and anyone else who handled her.  All the other critters love him, but not Sugar.  It had completely dumbfounded me!

Unfortunately, Raven's and Sugar's animosity got to be little much for me, so to save Raven's aching fingers, and Sugar's Fluffy hide, She went to my parents to live.  She was already familiar with the Business there, (due to many a 'ferret-party') and fit in quick.  After a day or two of moping about, she was up and ready to contend with Sarah for the title of Ferret Diva!  She  took a real liking to The Brothers (Fozzy and Winston) and the three of them could be absolute terrors- always getting into trouble like teasing the dogs, stealing toys, food, treats, remotes, keys, anything not nailed down- but they were fun to watch!!  All in all Sugar seemed very happy there,  and LS (who missed Sugar a bit) was fine, and knows she'd see sugar  at least once a week... and I was happy too since I got to see her all the time too!

On October 20th 2003, we noticed Sugar was loosing some of her hair.  She's done this before, and the vet always said it was normal, and there didn't seem to be anything wrong.  So initially we didn't think any thing of it- She was still her normal bouncy self, still had a good appetite, and loved to cuddle and play.  A few days later her hair started growing back in, so we put the incident from our minds. Then on November 5th, all the ferrets were left out for their nightly play time, and Sugar was bouncing around and playing with everyone, and stealing cheerios.  Later that night, it was 'snack time' where all the ferrets are brought out for cheerios and a little one on one play time on the table.  It was then we noticed that sugar had passed away and not two hours before she seemed fine.  It was quite a shock and hit all of us hard.

Good night Fuzzy Face, may you have many tunnels to explore, plenty of toys, lots of treats, especially popsicles and cheerios, toes to chase, and a warm snuggle place... Be happy Fuzzy one....
