Yuki was my 29th birthday present. We originally went to the SPCA to look for an adult dog and we found a beautiful Sharpei. After filling everything out, Raven, My sister-in-law (who was also looking for a dog) and I brought Bear in to meet him before we brought him home. It was a good thing we did because as it turned out the Sharpei didn't get along with other dogs and was very aggressive. I was a bit put out because otherwise he was a very good dog, but if he wasn't going to get a long with Bear, it wasn't worth it. Grumpy, we left- only to have my sister-in-law say "hey did you see the puppies?" when I said I didn't, she pulled a U-turn right there and we went back to the shelter.
After looking at the 7 week old litter of beagle/cocker spaniel puppies, two girls and two boys, it came down to one of the two boys, a brown and white one and a black and white one. I chose to look at the little black and white one first, who was also the runt of the litter. It only took a few minutes with him for me to be totally smitten with him, and I didn't even have to look at the brown and white one (which my sister-in-law adopted). While I was in puppy love, my husband on the other hand thought it was a bad idea but he let me have my way and after all the formalities, we got to take our new baby home.
On the way home, he named himself Yuki, and promptly fell asleep in my arms until we got home. At first he was terrified of Bear and would run and hide, but it didn't take him long to adjust to Bear, Faust, Raven and I.
