Fine Woodturning by Tony Manella

Another salad or fruit bowl out of aspen. This one measures 12" in diameter and 3 1/2" high. This bowl was cored out of a larger bowl and only contains heartwood. The tung oil finish on this piece really brings out the golden color of the wood and buffing on the Beall Buffing System gives it a nice glow. This piece was my first attempt at texturing using an old tool called a Burgess Vibro-tool. This tool moves a round-headed bit up and down at a rapid pace causing little dents. I like the texture and plan to do it on other pieces.

Detail of texturing on outside below rim.
