Fine Woodturning by Tony Manella |
This is obviously not a salad bowl.
The many wormholes give this piece a texture all its own. The black lines through the
piece are called spalting and are the remnants of the fungus that was starting the compost
process on the dead tree. The wood was also very rotted near the rim. I used Minwax Wood
Hardener to firm up the wood. The finish is spray on Krylon Matte Finish, which was then
hand buffed to bring up a slight shine. The piece was then covered in carnauba wax to protect
the finish.
