#12 Apricot Bowl

I obtained this apricot tree crotch from my next door neighbor's son who does landscaping for a living. I had never had any apricot before and was surprised that they grew this big. The base of the log was 16" in diameter and the bowl ended up at 13" with a height of 2". I split and sealed the log right away but couldn't decide what to do with it so it sat in my garage for 18 months until I started it. The wood was a little damp so I turned it most of the way and let it sit on the lathe for a week. It did warp a little but I returned it and now it is fine. The rim is under cut and is around an 1/8" thick. Like most fruit woods apricot is a dream to turn. This bowl is finished with one coat of pure tung oil followed up with two coats of tung oil finish.
