#18 Shagbark Hickory Bowl

I found this piece along the roadside, which is surprising since hickory is usually gobbled quick for use as firewood. The dark area is some damage and rot that I found once I chain sawed the piece in half. I like damaged wood and wasn't disappointed with this piece. I love the contrast between the healthy wood and damaged wood. I did fill some of the cracks with CA glue mixed with Super Russet Pearlex to give some highlights. This didn't show up in the photo though. The bowl measures 8 1/2" in diameter by 2" hi and is finished with polymerized tung oil and was then buffed using the Beal system.
