#19 Japanese Holly Bowl

A homeowner near my office took down this tree so he could replace the siding on his home. Lucky for me I found this wood the day after it was cut. In order to keep the clear white color holly must be turned almost immediately. Even with just a few weeks of storage in my freezer the wood has started to discolor. I like waney edged pieces and this wood, with its smooth bark, lends itself well to this shape. While its a small bowl, 5½" x 4½" x 2½" hi, its white color makes it stand out. This was a gift to an artist friend of mine who is also my biggest collector. This bowl was sprayed with Krylon Matte Finish and then buffed using the Beal system.
