Fine Woodturning by Tony Manella |
This is another piece of traded
wood. When I saw this turner from Oregon had just collected wood from a large
filbert I knew I wanted to try some. The piece has a hole through it down near the
bottom which I didn't find until after I started turning. The bowl is too small, 5"
diameter by 3" high to be of much use so the hole adds some interest. The sapwood
is rather bland but the heartwood has some wonderful mottled coloring. I did a
woodburning on the foot. The cracks are filled with pink Pearlex mixed with CA glue.
My wife hates the pink color but I like it even though it doesn't show up in the
photo very well. Its finished with Krylon Matte Finish and then buffed using the Beal system.
