Fine Woodturning by Tony Manella |
This cherry burl vase is the
sister to a bowl I made out of the same burl. This is actually the truck of the
tree as it came up to the burl, which was in the middle of a crotch of two branches.
The pith runs vertically through the middle of this piece but surprisingly it didn't
crack. Most of the eyes are in the sap wood with the dark heart wood being pretty
plain. This piece was finished with pure tung oil for a hand rubbed look. This piece
has been donated to the local Meals on Wheels for their Bountiful Bowl fund raiser.
