Both of these bowls come from
the same sweet gum log and both are heartwood. The color difference comes from
aging in the log. The 4" diameter bowl is turned from the freshly felled tree while
the 8" diameter bowl was turned from the log after it had been sitting for about
two months. I prefer the darker piece as it shows the grain off better.
