Fine Woodturning by Tony Manella |
This hollow vessel was turned from a very
rotted piece of spalted sugar maple from upstate New York. I used some Minwax brand Wood
Hardener on it to help firm up the really soft spots. It was still difficult to turn and
nearly impossible to get a good clean finish. I used Krylon Matte Finish spray to keep the
color of the wood as natural as possible. The rim is made of verawood, from Argentina, and
has no finish. The piece measures 5" high by 4" in diameter.
