MINUTES

TREASURER’S REPORT

The treasurer’s report given by Peg Grigalonis showed an opening balance of $6,230.39 as of April 1, 2004.  Receipts and credits amounted to $366.00.  There were no expenditures during the month, bringing the ending balance to $6,596.39 as of April 30.  The report was accepted on a motion by Rose Flamini, seconded by Dolly Wagner.

CORRESPONDENCE

Secretary Pat Brown read a letter from Madeline Van Orden of Swaven, New Jersey, which included membership dues for herself and her sister, Gini Pugdun.  She said she would be interested in purchasing any commerative books the society may be publishing.  Selgrath commented that Eichman was mailing out membership cards as dues came in and a complete membership record was maintained on the computer in the museum room.

COMMITTEES

Membership Committee

In the absence of Membership Chairman Theresa McCord, Eichman reported there were 11 membership renewals and two new members.

Curator

Eichman said the society had received a donation Mrs. Charles Domson of a mural of the former Kaier Brewery and it has been hung in the historical room.  A Colt model gun used by John Eichman when he was Chief Burgess of Mahanoy City was donated by Glen Eichman.

Eichman said a number of guests visited the museum room in conjunction with the Mahanoy Township High School Alumni reunion May 15th, and $40 was received in donations.

Book Advisory Committee

Eichman said the problem with the book cover had been resolved and a few chapters of the book are nearing completion.  He asked if anyone had any photographs of Mahanoy City prior to 1913 to lend to the society.  He said he would scan them through and have the pictures returned as soon as possible.  They will then be forwarded to Arcadia Printers.

A motion was made by Eichman and seconded by Rose Flamini to donate 10 Historical Society T-shirts to be given to the Mahanoy City Downtown Revitalization Committee to be used as door prizes at their May 26th meeting.  Rose Flamini said everyone was welcome to attend the meeting.

Artifacts Committee

Rose Flamini said there had been 115 accessions to date.  Selgrath said the society had received a number of offers for storage use including the second floor of the Mahanoy City Public Library.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

Soto said he secured the magnetic signs with the historical society’s name.  The signs will be affixed to both sides of the car that Soto will drive in the Memorial Day Parade.  Rose Flamini and Charlotte Maurey will ride in the car.

Selgrath said he spoke with Ms. Ogden and she will type up the society’s newsletter.  She asked that news articles be e-mailed to her by June 15.  The letter will be brought to the museum room for folding and mailing.

If anyone knows of a group wanting to visit the room, Eichman said he would open it, if possible, if he were notified in advance

NEW BUSINESS

Kathy Wufsus received three bags – a red, blue and tan one -- from the former American Bank that the owner wanted to donate to the society.

ADJOURN

The meeting adjourned on a motion by Maurey seconded by Soto.

The next meeting will be held Monday, June 28, at which time Dr. Jack Kubert will speak on the collection of the late Estelle M. Barnhart, a music teacher in the Mahanoy Area schools.  The public will be invited and the event publicized in the two local newspapers.
