Elrond was a great, mostly Old English Sheep Dog. We got him in 19?? from an amish farmer who was going to take him and whatever pups remained from a litter to the Green Dragon auction. Jolene heard of it from a fellow worker at the Ephrata Hospital where she worked at the time and we went "just to look". When we went in the house to take a look, Elrond chose us by coming over and sitting on Randy's foot. He lived quietly, for the most part, in a pen built under the peach tree. There he enjoyed eating the peaches as well as the tomatoes that we grew in the bed next to his run. He later taught Max to enjoy tomatoes. He had two hip operations in his old age, experienced a rejuvenation when joined by puppy Max, and suffered a final attack of some sort in 19??. Elrond is remembered with a concrete statue on the front porch in the summer that watches the birds at the bird bath in the garden the same way he used to watch birds sharing his water dish. He was an affectionate and gentle companion. |
