Mario Page

Mario is the third child of two boys and girls born to a very poor indigenous family whose parents are young, and literate. The elders speak the native dialect as well as Spanish. The women use the typical outfit of the region. Their home, which is owned, is a two room hut in a fair condition built of mixed adobe and cornstalk walls, a tin and tiled roof, and dirt floor. Water is obtained from a public tank, and handcarried, there is a latrine, and at night a gas lamp is used. Cooking is done outside on a rustic stove over firewood. Furnishings are scarce, but they do have two rustic beds. His mother tends to the household. His father is a small farmer who grows some crops which he sells in the local market. His earnings are insufficient to cover their basic needs. Mario is now in the 2nd grade at school and can read and write. His health is good. He helps his father at work and also helps take care of his siblings. Through our sponsorship of Mario he has received medical and dental services, medicines, vitamins, health education and school supplies and food baskets.
