What
Is Cirent Semiconductor?
Cirent
Semiconductor is a manufacturing division of Agere Systems,
Inc. (NYSE: AGR.A). Lucent Technologies has announced
it intends to spin off Agere Systems as an independent
company. Created in October 1995, Cirent Semiconductor
enhances Agere's ability to meet the growing worldwide
demand for advanced integrated circuits, which are used
increasingly in products such as communications and computing
equipment, and networking products. Agere Systems' semiconductor
process development laboratories are located on the Cirent
Semiconductor campus. The Orlando, Florida, facility is
the largest manufacturer of semiconductor devices in the
southeast.
The
Cirent Semiconductor facility is a Complementary Metal
Oxide Semiconductor (CMOS) wafer fabrication plant. The
factory is the first Agere Systems facility specifically
designed and built for wafer fabrication. We currently
produce integrated circuits, or microchips, on eight inch
silicon wafers for customers that are the world leaders
in their markets.
Cirent Semiconductor sits on 250 acres of lush Central
Florida landscape surrounded by lakes and trees. More
than 1,400 Agere Systems employees work at Cirent Semiconductor.
Agere Systems' research and development organization,
formerly part of Bell Laboratories, exists at the Cirent
Semiconductor facility to develop next-generation semiconductor
manufacturing processes. This combination of development
and manufacturing is driving future generations of leading
edge technology.
Quality
Cirent Semiconductor is recognized as a world leader in
quality, receiving the prestigious Shingo Prize in 1994.
The Shingo Prize is awarded annually to select manufacturers
who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in manufacturing
processes, quality enhancements, productivity improvement,
and customer satisfaction. Cirent Semiconductor is certified
to ISO 9002 standards.
Community
Cirent Semiconductor's commitment to community makes us
a valuable asset to Central Florida. Cirent achieved OSHA's
highest award for Safety and Environmental Protection
-- Star Status in the Voluntary Protection Program. Cirent
is also a pioneer of the ISO 14001 environmental management
system. Cirent Semiconductor has also earned local respect
and recognition for its support of diversity, education,
the arts, and charities in Central Florida and received
the first ever 'Partnership Award' from the University
