Cirent
Semiconductor manufactures advanced CMOS (Complimentary
Metal Oxide Semiconductor) technology for our owner,
Agere Systems, as well as for customers including
Cirrus Logic. We operate a world-class 200mm (8-inch)
wafer fab with the following technology mix: 0.35
micron (um), 0.3um, 0.25um, 0.2um, 0.16um
Each technology has many variations related to functional
process modules which add to the core technology
in terms of photo levels and total steps.
Agere Systems is the world leader in communications
semiconductors. The integrated circuit products
of the Agere Systems include:
|
 |
Wireless |
| |
Agere
is a leading supplier of end-to-end wireless solutions,
from design tools and system engineering to DSPs,
CSPs, RF devices and software. Our wireless solutions
include high-performance, low-power-consuming devices
plus software, application development tools and
customer support. These solutions cover digital
cellular telephony, digital mobile radio and digital
narrowband messaging markets.
|
 |
DSPs (Digital Signal Processors) |
| |
Chips
that perform speech coding, channel coding, filtering,
error correction and other functions in digital
cellular phones, pagers, base stations and other
wireless products. Agere«s chips support base station
demands for American, European and Japanese digital
cellular standards while reducing chip count, power
consumption and cost. DSP16210. The first chip based
on Agere«s new DSP16000 core architecture. It could
lower the cost of the electronics in base stations
used by wireless service providers by up to 50 percent.
CSPs (Conversion Signal Processors) - Chips that
convert signals between RF chips and DSP chips.
|
 |
RF
(Radio Frequency Devices) |
 |
Chips
that transmit and receive signals between the
baseband chips (DSPs and CSPs) and the antenna.
These RF products are developed specifically for
digital cellular and digital cordless applications.
|
 |
Multimedia
ICs |
 |
Agere
Systems has historically been the leading chip supplier
for communications applications including telephones,
answering machines, and modems for personal computers,
remote access servers, and stand-alone retail products.
|
 |
Computer
Modem ICs |
 |
Agere
Systems ranks first in the world in sales of chips
for modem-equipped personal computers (PCs), and
the company is the number one seller of chips for
modem-equipped PCs in North America. Agere«s Apolloª
and Marsª Super-Integrated Modem Chip Sets based
on V.90/K56flexª technology enable a personal computer
to do videoconferencing, collaborative computing
and other interactive services at up to 56 kilobits
per second. The WildWireª DSL chipset incorporates
Agere Systems WildWire Technology which enables
data to be downloaded at up to 1.5 Megabits per
second (Mbits/s) without requiring voice/data splitters.
Universal Serial Bus Agere is shipping the first
Universal Serial Bus-compliant modem chip set which
makes plugging in modems to PCs as simple as plugging
a lamp cord into a wall outlet.

Consumer
ICs |
 |
Agere
Systems digital telephone answering device chip
sets-backed by DSP technology and expertise in speech
compression-provide low-cost, multi-featured solutions
for manufacturers of advanced telephone answering
machines. These chips offer high-quality voice recording,
speech coding and silence compression for clearer
sound, variable speed playback, mailbox message
management architecture and voice-activated recording.
DSP1609 - The DSP1609 was introduced for low-cost
digital cordless phone and answering machines, and
operates at up to 100,000,000 instructions per second.
|
 |
ASICs
(Application Specific Integrated Circuits) |
 |
Specialized
chips that are designed specifically for individual
applications to maximize speed. ASICs can be the
brains behind anything from a computer disk drive
to a local area network. Data Networking ICs The
Silicon Suiteª for Fast Ethernet provides standard
and customized solutions for 10 Mbits/s and 100
network interface cards and hub applications. Mass
Storage ICs - Since 1990, Agere has been a market
leader in read-channel devices - essential chips
that manage the storage and retrieval functions
in computer hard drives and floppy disks.
|
 |
Peripheral
ICs - Agere Systems ISDN ICs |
 |
Agere
offers both two-wire U and four-wire S/T interface
devices to digital services.
|
 |
Transmission ICs |
 |
Agere
Systems T1/E1 solutions deliver a leading-edge product
line of line interfaces, analog front ends, framers,
and protocol controller devices for even the most
sophisticated data and voice telephony applications.
|
 |
SONET ICs |
 |
Agere
Systems highly integrated IC solutions target SONET/SDH,
DS3, and DS1 applications, which include multiplexers,
mappers, cross-connect systems, and high-speed line
interfaces.
|
 |
Analog
Line Card ICs |
 |
The
collection of circuits that makes plain old telephone
service (POTS) possible in traditional central
office and PBX applications as well as in newer
domains such as ISDN, fiber-in-the loop, and hybrid
fiber coax applications.
|
 |
Broadband Access ICs |
 |
Includes
Fiber-to-the-Curb (FTTC), xDSL, and Passive Optical
Network devices. Agere«s Multipoint Broadband Access
(MBA) chip set creates the communications link between
an Optical Network Unit (ONU) and a resident set-top
terminal in an FTTC system architecture and supports
simultaneous delivery of switched digital video
ATM services, telephony, and broadcast video services.
|
 |
ATM Switching ICs |
 |
The
Atlanta ATM switch chip set enables cost-effective,
high-performance, non-blocking switch architectures
that are scalable over a range of 0.5 Gbits/s
to 25 Gbits/s.
