UNd64 Faq 1.00 Last Updated: March 26, 1997 (c) 1997 Jess Sosnoski Emailware!? ----------- Yes, it's emailware...I'd like to see what kind of user base my program has so I can continue to support it. UNd64 is NOT crippled in any way, nor do I ever intend to do so..no keyfiles, no shareware fees...just gimme email! and I'll be happy. 1.) Q&A 2.) Related Utilities 1.) Q&A ------- Q: Why, when I try to extract files from certain .d64 diskimages, do I only get one or two files that don't do anything when I run them? A: Typically, these diskimages used trackloaders, and you only extracted the bootfile(s)...in order to use this type of diskimage, you would require a virtual-1541, or have to transfer the .d64 image back to a 1541 disk, and then attempt to boot it. Q: Where do I find C-64 diskimages, etc... to use with und64? A: Go to your favorite local search engine and type in the name of the type of archive you're looking for, and you WILL find something. i.e. ".d64" or "C-64 software" will DEFINATELY turn up something. There are probably over 100 C-64 software sites out there. Q: Can you make it possible to dump archive contents directly over to a C-64/1541/etc...? A: It CAN be done, but there are already several utilities on Aminet to do so...I had an idea for a d64filesystem, but someone wrote one so...now I don't have to figure out how to do it. :) Also, it was not my intent to make the program a 1541, etc... emulator...just an archive utility similar to the likes of lha or lzx (although the job my program does is *MUCH* simpler) Q: When UNd64 extracts from {insert name of .d64 file here}, most of the files appear corrupt...why? A: The disk that the .d64 was made from was either corrupt itself, or contained custom boot code, and the errors may have come from a custom modification to the filesystem on the source disk, which the standard dos routines coudln't read properly...I have no idea even if such diskimages could be transferred back to disk and still work. Q: Where's the GUI? A: Someone has contacted me who was interested in writing one for UNd64, and you'll see it on Aminet when it comes out. Q: When will the ability to add to archives be added? A: When I convert it to C...I'll give it a try. (but...it won't be easy) 2.) RELATED UTILITIES --------------------- I looked thru misc/emu on Aminet and here's what I came up with: Pardon the asterisks...I did this so I wouldn't have to continually update this every time someone updated a program. Also...this list may be incomplete, and can go out of date, especially with the additions of new c-64ish utilities. Name Description (and personal comments) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1541.lha - Allows reading of 1541 disks in 5.25 Amiga drive - also can create .d64's from 1541 disks as well - as de-arc the files therein. - It looks pretty damn cool...unfortunately, - you'll need to adjust the speed of your Amiga - 5.25 drive to read certain zones on a 1541 disk. - (NOT the program's fault) Arc64.lha - Like Und64, but smaller and faster, less output. - it's easy to crash. AXF_64*.lha - c64 emulator C64Gfx*.lha - Conversion utils for c64 FLI and Koala pics copy1581.lha - 1581 file reader copy1581f.lha - 1581 file reader WORKING! - hmmm...I couldn't get either to work, both - had this tendency to deadlock or crash trackdisk. D64-Zipcode.lha - Converts .d64's to RLE-compressed split - c-64 zipcode archives and back. d64.lha - Allows one to digitize a c-64 tape, and then - read the files out of the sample. - I haven't tried it, but it sounds cool. DeSpace.lha - Removes space-padding on files extracted by - an older buggier version of UNd64....if you don't - have the latest version of UNd64...get it! - *NOTE* No longer required since Und64 v38.0 Easy1541.lha - Full package to manage a 1541 drive. - I looked at an older version, and it looked - pretty damn good...I haven't had the oppertunity - to mess with it tho...yet... Emul1541v*.lha - Use your Amiga as a CBM drive - This looked pretty cool too. Frodo*.lha - C64 emulator FS1541v*.lha - Filesystem for 1541 disks - pretty groovy program. I used it to mount - .d64's as virtual 1541 disks. MagiC64.lha - c64 emulator - Looked pretty damn complete, although my - 25mhz '020 wasn't quite fast enough for it - This emulator very likely kicks ass on faster - Amigas magica64.lha - converts a64/c64 stuff to MagiC64 format. MakeP00.lha - converts files to .p00 format RunC64_v*.lha - Send files to c-64 very fast SimDisk.lha - Um...No Comment. sys.lha - Not quite emulator related, but you should - have this if you're a C-64 fan! TheA64Package.lha - I have no idea if this is v2 or v3 on Aminet, but - owning the original, I know that v3 is pretty - outdated, but runs some things acceptably on - slower machines....I'd still recommend an - 020/25 as a bare minimum tho. TransNib*.lha - Fast C64<-->Amiga transfer utility und64.lha - My program, whose FAQ you're reading right now. UnT.lha - Older .t64 de-archiver. Unt64*.lha - Small .t64 de-archiver.
