Recommended Software This page contains links to various Internet
Software that you will need or desire to use
when connecting your Amiga to the Internet.

  1. The first thing you may need to do before trying to install/run Internet
software is to download and install MUI 3.8, if you don't already have it.

  2. Next you need a TCP Stack so that you can connect to the internet.

  3. To chat to other people on the net, you will probably want an IRC Client.

  4. Of course, you'll need an EMail Client if you want to process Electronic Mail.

  5. To make use of File Transfer Protocol, you will need an FTP Client.

  6. Telnet Clients can be used to connect to MUDs, BBSes, and Other Servers.

  7. And, last but not least, you'll want a Web Browser so that you can browse
    the World Wide Web.

TCP Stacks.
  1. AmiTCP 4.0 Demo
      Advantages:
    • Does not disconnect upon a demo timeout.
    • InetD server works with all software I've tried.

      Disadvantages:
    • NOT for the Novice User. If you don't have a clue, forget this for now.
    • IP Filtering (inet.access) is not enabled on the Demo software.
    • Does not re-connect after reboot with PPP if your ISP has disabled re-negotiation.
  2. Miami 3.2 Demo
You will need to download at least 3 archives.
The Main Archive, Main Binary for your CPU, and GUI module of your choice.
      Advantages:
    • Fairly simple to configure and use.
    • All settings/controls are handled thru an MUI GUI.
    • Re-connects after reboot with PPP even if your ISP has disabled re-negotiation.

      Disadvantages:
    • The Demo has a timeout, which drops your ISP connection.
    • InetD server will not run my choice of ircd server software.
    • IP Filtering does not always seem to work the way you think it should.
  3. TermiteTCP 1.0 Demo
      Advantages:
    • No Comment. I've never used this software.

      Disadvantages:
    • This Demo has very limited options.
    • Does not support IP Filtering at all.
    • Seems to have problems with AmIRC 2.x+. Can cause hangup during Quit.
    • I've been told that the InedD server does not run a lot of server software.
