"There once was a couple who met in Nantucket..."
Leticia and Mike met the week of July 4th, 2002 when they both rented a house with a group of friends in Nantucket. The trip was organized by Maura Hickey, a mutual friend. Ironically, Mike almost did not attend the weekend getaway; he had plans to take off to Europe to meet his sister and her friend in the French and Italian Riviera. However, his level of exhaustion from work, airplanes, and hotels as well as the prospect of strapping on his backpack, combined with the persuasive powers of Trish Dell’Orfano telling him that Nantucket was the beach-bum week he needed to rejuvenate, brought him to the island. Similarly, Leticia thought about declining Maura's offer because she was planning a trip to Ireland in August. However, she was also burnt out from balancing a heavy dating schedule at home. She thought it would be nice to hit the beach for a relaxing, "boy-free" weekend. Over the course of the week, Leticia and Mike found that they were intrigued with one another's differing lifestyles. Leticia never met anyone who lived in hotels, ate every meal in restaurants, and flew all over the world on an expense account. Mike was drawn to Leticia’s silver toes and was intrigued by the lifestyle of someone who had the entire summer off. The turning point of the Nantucket trip for Mike and Leticia occurred late night at the "Chicken Box" on July 3rd (officially July 4th). They both thank Trish for softening Leticia’s "boy-free" week commitment by forcing her to drink two Cape-Codders from a straw; they had an unbelievable time together, but sadly with only one more day of vacation left. Back to Top Mike conveniently was working in New Jersey only one hour from Leticia’s hometown of Stroudsburg, PA. As their relationship quickly blossomed, Mike dropped his bags in her apartment three months later. Leticia was thrilled with Mike's growing love not only for her, but her town as well. He always considered himself a big city guy, but quickly grew to love small town living.
