Apparently, the ARRL Executive Committe *may* have taken the displeasure that I know many members expressed with their actions in ruling me ineligible to run in the 2005 Atlantic Division Director election with at least some degree of seriousness.
The Minutes of the October 22, 2005 ARRL Executive Committee meeting in Fort Worth, Texas state, at Agenda Item #11:
"11. In the Director elections for the 2006-2008 term a candidate had been found by the Election and Ethics Committee to be ineligible because of the nature of his business connections. On September 1 by teleconference the Executive Committee reviewed and upheld the decision. The incident has raised the issue of whether a revision of Article 11 of the ARRL Articles of Association is desirable. Committee members discussed the underlying philosophy of the ARRL's eligibility policy. A proposal to amend Article 11 is expected to be offered by a Director at the January 2006 meeting."
Maybe there is hope after all for a positive change that will not unreasonably and arbitrarially exclude qualified candidates from running for election to the ARRL Board - but only time will tell.
